Mikuni Fireworks

The Mikuni Fireworks Festival is a summer highlight even in Fukui held at Mikuni Sunset Beach near Tojinbo and Oshima Island.

Slated for some 15,000 fireworks each year, see as spectacular two-foot-wide aerial shells, music-synchronized fireworks, and intricate star-mines light up the midsummer night sky. Festival fans know this event for its dramatic "underwater fireworks”, where skilled pyrotechnicians throw lit fireworks from boats into the sea to reveal a mesmerizing effect of semicircular explosions.

The fireworks are handled each year by acclaimed pyrotechnicians from Nagano's Ina Kako Horiuchi Fireworks and winners of numerous awards across Japan. There are even specially design fireworks designed exclusively for this event.

The largest aerial fireworks, reaching altitudes up to 450 meters, burst into magnificent blooms nearly 450 meters in diameter, achieving a peak height of around 675 meters. Using a type known as Nishiki Kamuro, the fireworks shimmy in a graceful cascade down to the ocean surface for even more va-va-voom.

The hour-long event culminates dramatically with a grand finale of simultaneous launches of star-mines and large aerial shells, a highlight eagerly anticipated by visitors.

Premium viewing seats are available at two locations—Mikuni Sunset Beach, where the fireworks are launched, and Kuzuryu River Boat Park across the water—allowing spectators to experience this magnificent display from prime vantage points.
