Last update :

Kehi no Matsubara, located in Tsuruga City, Fukui Prefecture, is one of Japan's Three Great Pine Groves, alongside Miho no Matsubara in Shizuoka and Niji no Matsubara in Saga. Spanning about 1 kilometer in length and covering approximately 34 hectares, it features around 17,000 pine trees, including Japanese red and black pines. Stand in awe of the enchanting contrast between verdant pines, white sand beaches, and vivid blue sea. Depicted by renowned ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige in his series "Famous Views of the Sixty-odd Provinces," Kehi no Matsubara was officially designated as a national scenic spot in 1934.

The summer months draw crowds thanks to those looking for a little shade after swimming. In winter, the grove becomes a breathtaking sight, blanketed in pure white snow and complemented by the dramatic waves of the Sea of Japan. Especially striking at sunset, the pine grove is bathed in warm crimson hues, creating a dreamlike and breathtakingly beautiful panorama.

Within the grove, there are maintained walking trails perfect for leisurely strolls and forest bathing, making it a beloved relaxation spot among locals. Surrounded by the refreshing scent of sea breeze, it's an ideal place to pause and unwind during your journey.
