European Cuisine Mon

Founded in 1936, European Cuisine Mon is an iconic Western-style restaurant in Kobe, beloved by locals and known throughout the city. The original owner, convinced that the future belonged to Western cuisine, opened the restaurant in Shinkaichi before relocating to its current location after World War II. Stepping through the wooden doors, guests are greeted by a charming atmosphere featuring antique decor, some of which dates back to the restaurant's founding, reflecting the original owner's personal collection.

One of the restaurant's signature dishes is omelet rice, a delightful combination of chicken and mushroom fried rice generously wrapped in fluffy eggs, served alongside a homemade tomato sauce. Another popular item is the beef cutlet (bifukatsu), featuring tender meat with a crispy crust and rich demi-glace sauce. Beef cutlet sandwiches are also highly regarded and make excellent souvenirs.

Visitors should also take note of the packaging and matchbox designs by renowned woodblock print artist Hide Kawanishi, famous for his "Kobe Hyakkei" (One Hundred Views of Kobe) series.
